The displayed objects show an overview of the work of the international reputable artist.

Biographie of Erwin Eisch     Exhibitions

The exhibition "Heaven starts on the earth" in Frauenau shows a cross section of the complete works, from more than forty years, of his artistic work and is arranged by Erwin Eisch himself

Some of the displayed works are from the personal collection of Erwin and Gretl Eisch and normally are not open to the public. For the first time pottery made in Japan will be displayed together with glaze paintings. The special focus is put on last year's works, among these are many paintings that were created under the impression of the baroque artist Franz Anton Rauscher.

Erwin Eisch and glass art have been self-evidently connected in Germany and the rest of the world for more than forty years. The name Erwin Eisch is inseparably linked with the Studio Glass Movement; a movement of artists that freed the material glass from being a functional material and that wanted to elevate it to become a material for artistic expression. There are nearly endless possibilities for the addition of imaginative ideas to the sculptural form as well as possessing a paintable surface. Eisch gave glass its poetical value.

Floating figures is a stylistic feature of Eisch's art in all artistic areas. It is both the expression of his own sense of space relating to the earth and cosmos and developed from the impressions of baroque mural painting that accompanied him since boyhood, mainly the ceiling painting of Franz Anton Rauscher in the parish church Mariä Himmelfahrt (Mary’s Assumption) in Frauenau.

Besides that and equal to that he is and will be a painter and a drawer. It is necessary to see the headstrong painter in Erwin Eisch who takes us with power, devotion and quite a portion of humour and irony into a visual world that can bring insights and new perspectives to us.

His drawings show a witty sense of  humour that is frequently articulated in the titles, such as "Always when I am blue"

His paintings are more demanding, they mostly are demure and inconvenient, they do not impose themselves but they want to be looked at for a long time and calmly to make transparent their own world, the cosmos created by the artist.

“At the end of the fifties I got contacts to the group Spur at the Munich Academy. At this time all of us were impressed by Tachisme and Art Informel. However I soon noticed that there would be no further development for me. Social criticism was commanding and the revolt of 68 already noticeable. The end of art became an agenda. Thus Max Strack, Gretl Stadler and I founded the Group Radama in 1960.
In 1961 I left the Munich art scene with the commemoration exhibition for Bolus Krim where we presented the failure of the avant-garde art of the time. In 1962 Gretl and I married and went to Frauenau. There was the glassworks of the Eisch family. Not until the end of the seventies did painting became a subject that I dealt with. The search for the figure started and abstraction receded. The process of painting became my way to the image, to life and vitality.”

Erwin Eisch, interview with Masahiro Hochida, 2002
